BC defeats Alberta 5-4 in overtime to claim bronze

CALGARY - After scoring two late third period goals to tie the game, Team BC claimed bronze at the 2019 WHL Cup with a 5-4 overtime victory over Team Alberta.

Alberta took a 2-0 lead into the second period with goals from Billal Noori and Tyler MacKenzie, their fourth and third goals of the tournament, respectively.

Connor Gourley drew a penalty shot halfway through the second and gave his team a 3-0 lead, but BC answered back minutes later to make it a 3-1 game after two periods.

BC pulled within one early in the third, but Grayden Gotaas restored the two-goal lead with his first of the tournament. With just over a minute left in the game, BC scored two goals just 19 seconds apart to force overtime, where Jace Weir scored to complete the comeback for BC.

Alberta out-shot BC 33-28. Team Alberta netminder Justen Maric made 23 saves in his third start.
