RED DEER – Hockey Alberta’s Coach of the Month for November, sponsored by Players Bench Team Apparel, is Greg Eisler of Calgary.
Currently the head coach of the Crowfoot U11 D1 Coyotes and an assistant coach of the NWCAA U13 Stamps, Eisler has been coaching for six years.
He began coaching when his son started playing hockey, because it gave him a reason to give back to the game.
“Having great coaches growing up, I wanted to pass along skills I learned. When my son started playing hockey, that gave me the excuse to get back behind the bench,” said Eisler. “I don’t necessarily want to help a player become the best player, but instead push to support all players become their best.”
It’s Eisler’s enthusiasm and philosophy that has made him a stand-out coach. He teaches players about the responsibility and privilege that comes with playing and sets expectations for players to be mentally and physically prepared for both games and practices. Parents believe that it is these outlooks that will make their children not only better hockey players, but better citizens of society as well.
For Eisler, his most memorable moments are seeing players apply practiced skills to success in games. He enjoys seeing kids realize their own potential and watch them grow as players, teammates and individuals.
When he’s not at the rink, he tries to take in as many of his daughter’s ballet performances as he can. In his spare time, Eisler spends his time outdoors hunting and fishing.
The Coach of the Month award is presented every month during the Minor Hockey season, based on nominations submitted to Hockey Alberta.
Minor hockey coaches will be selected throughout the hockey season and will receive a coaching package from Players Bench Team Apparel valued at over $500, which includes a helmet, gloves, track suit, coach bag, puck bag, rink board, and coaching resources.
