Team Alberta U16 Male Roster >
"The selection process was very competitive, which made for some very difficult decisions," said Head Coach Brandin Cote. "Our staff is extremely excited to work with this talented group of players moving forward to compete at the 2019 WHL Cup.”
Players were selected to the shortlist based on their overall play throughout the Team Alberta scouting process, the Alberta Cup in April, and at the U16 Summer Camp in Red Deer in July. Eighty players were invited to Red Deer, and from the Summer Camp, a shortlist roster was established and monitored in league play during the first months of the 2019-20 season.
Joining Cote on the team staff are: Jay Pylypuik (assistant coach), Cody Reynolds (assistant coach), Adam Sergerie (video coach), Derek Purfield (goalie coach), Myles Berlin (therapist), Dave Campbell (equipment manager), Bobby Fox (head scout), Michael Kraichy (Director of Hockey Operations) and Barry Medori (Coach Mentor).
Alberta’s Minor Hockey Associations are well-represented amongst the team, with 11 different associations represented on the roster: Airdrie, Calgary, Camrose, Edmonton, Fort Saskatchewan, Mayerthorpe, Raymond, Red Deer, Sherwood Park, St. Albert, and Whitecourt.
The 2019 WHL Cup will feature the highest-rated players in the under-16 age category from the provinces of British Columbia, Alberta, Saskatchewan and Manitoba. The four-team round robin tournament is the first step in Hockey Canada’s Program of Excellence for players.
The majority of players participating in the event were selected in the 2019 WHL Bantam Draft or have since been listed by WHL Clubs. The WHL Cup is made possible through financial support provided by the WHL and Hockey Canada.
The 2019 WHL Cup runs October 23-27 at Winsport’s Markin MacPhail Centre in Calgary.
