14 Hockey Alberta Alumni Taken In Nhl Draft

Hockey Alberta would like to congratulate 14 of its alumni for their selections at the 2011 NHL Entry Draft, June 24-25 in Minnesota.

“We are very proud of these individuals who have worked extremely hard to get to where they are,” said Hockey Alberta’s Senior Manager of Hockey Development, Tim Leer. “Seeing these players get drafted into the NHL gives Hockey Alberta, and all the minor hockey associations, coaches and fellow teammates along the way, a great sense of satisfaction knowing their hockey development was positively impacted right here in Alberta.”

Twelve out of the fourteen Hockey Alberta based draft picks participated in Team Alberta programs between 2008 and 2010.
One of the Hockey Alberta draft picks - Sam Jardine – was selected out of the Alberta Junior Hockey League (AJHL). Dillion Simpson played in the AJHL but played the 2010-11 season in the NCAA. The rest of the prospects played the 2010-11 season in the Western Hockey League (WHL).

The 2011 NHL Entry Draft had seven rounds where a total of 211 prospects from all over the world were selected to one of the 30 NHL franchises.
