“We’re very confident in the athletes we have moving forward,” said Hockey Alberta’s Manager of Team Alberta, Michael Kraichy. “We believe we’re building a group that can compete with the best programs the country has to offer and the Summer Camp is the next step in the process of building this team.”
The selection process started with an intense Spring Camp in Spruce Grove in May where the athletes met to compete for one of the spots. Following the completion of the Spring Camp, the coaching and selection staff, led by Head Coach, Howie Draper (University of Alberta), reduced the roster down to these athletes.
From Summer Camp, a selected group of players will be shortlisted to compete at a fall selection camp in September, which will take place in Edmonton. The shortlisted players will then be scouted through the start of the club team season until the final Team Alberta roster is named. The team will compete at the 2015 Canada Winter Games in Prince George, BC, February 13 - March 1, 2015.
The Canada Winter Games occurs in the off years of the National Women’s U18 Championship. At the 2013 National Women’s U18 Championship, Team Alberta won bronze. At the 2011 Canada Winter Games in Halifax, NS, Team Alberta won gold.
Team Alberta U18 Female is the final stage of the Team Alberta Female Program and one of the initial stages that Hockey Canada uses to help identify players for the National Program.
