CALGARY - Two Albertans are among the top players from across the country who have been invited to attend the BFL National Women’s Team Training Camp, presented by Sobeys, in Calgary Jan. 17-30. The camp will take place in a bubble environment closed to the public.
Goaltender Emerance Maschmeyer (Bruderheim) and defence Meaghan Mikkelson (St. Albert) will attend the training camp.
Several Albertans also join the coaching and support staff tasked to lead Canada’s National Women’s Team through the 2020-21 season. Brad Kirkwood (Calgary/University of Calgary) will serve as the goaltending coach, James Emery (Calgary) as the video coach and Christine Atkins (Fort Macleod) as one of the team therapists.
Thirty-five players will participate in the camp, giving the coaching staff an opportunity to evaluate players in preparation for the 2021 IIHF Women’s World Championship in Halifax and Truro, N.S., April 7-17.
