Manager, Hockey Development

Job Type: Permanent Full-Time
Location: Red Deer, AB
Hockey Alberta is seeking a talented and energetic professional to join the organization as our Manager, Hockey Development. This position focuses on providing quality service to players, coaches, membership, and stakeholders of Hockey Alberta. Primarily working alongside staff and volunteers; this position will lead, and guide assigned Hockey Alberta Members and ensure they are connected to the annual strategies aimed at advancing the game. The position is responsible to lead overall Player Development, MHA Player Development Service and Standards, Player Development Programming, and assigned Coach Education Programs and Initiatives.
Key areas of responsibility include:
Minor Hockey Association Player Development Service and Standards
· Lead MHA Player Development Standards with focus on associations creating and implementing their own player development plan.
· Lead recruitment strategies to identify and train volunteers as needed to support player development.
Player Development Programming
· Implement a deliberate player programming plan that focuses on specific content for the age and level of players.
· Lead partnerships that will aid in delivery of programs and education/training for players.
· Recruit the top skill instructors & coaches in Alberta to support the on-ice delivery.
Player Development Plan
· Lead skills research and development based on trends in the game.
· Create resources as needed focussing on deficiencies in player development.
· Lead communication plan of player development resources.
· Deliver Skills Coach Seminar to educate MHA leads and coaches.
National Coach Certification Program (Coach 1, Coach 2, Checking Skills)
· Lead all aspects of the clinic delivery in Central & South, including booking process and tracking.
· Support all aspects of the clinic content review and distribution of clinic materials to facilitators.
· Support facilitator recruitment strategy ensuring Central & South areas of the province have coverage.
Hockey Alberta Coach Development Plan
· Lead Future Leaders Development Program.
· Support Continuing Education Tracking.
· Support coaching website content and direct to coach communications.
Organizational Leadership
- Manage assigned budgets and resources for development plans.
- Ensure effective communication and coordination of resources through collaboration with other employees and participate in the department business planning process.
- Engage with other business areas, and ensure collaboration amongst staff to consult on processes, projects, initiatives, etc.
Qualifications and Attributes:
- University Degree or diploma in Sport Administration, Recreation, Kinesiology, or a relevant field.
- 3-5 years’ experience in a relevant field and/or professional office setting.
- Knowledge & experience in areas of office administration or other related disciplines, including Microsoft Word, Outlook, PowerPoint, and Internet Tools/Web applications is an asset.
- Exceptional communication and organizational skills are essential to work in this busy “Team” environment.
- Ability to lead, communicate professionally and build relationships with staff, volunteers, and clients.
- Strong Interpersonal Skills to positively and diplomatically interact with volunteers, members, sponsors, media, staff, and public.
- Ability to work under pressure and prioritize accordingly and/or multi-task to meet various deadlines.
- Ability to work independently and dependently with staff and volunteers.
- Ability to be creative, facilitate change, develop, and implement yearly budgets and respect policies and procedures.
- Valid driver’s license required; access to personal transportation is considered an asset
- Understanding of the sport of hockey and the business of sport is required.
- Hockey playing and coaching experience is required.
What We Offer
· Based on Hockey Alberta’s Compensation Policy, the salary range for this position is $58,396-$68,701 (relative to the successful applicant’s education, skills, and experience.
· Upon completion of the first six-month of employment, you’ll be enrolled in Hockey Alberta’s comprehensive benefits plan.
· Two weeks vacation annually, with incremental increases based on years of service as per Hockey Alberta’s Time Off Policy.
