Emergency Goaltender Submission Form
Hockey Alberta allows the use of an Emergency Goaltender during any scheduled Exhibition, League, Provincial or Tournament Game if the Hockey Team’s registered goaltender and all available affiliates are unavailable due to medical reasons or extenuating circumstances. An Emergency Goaltenders must be registered with another Hockey Team of equal or lower Division or Category/ Tier. It is recommended the Emergency Goaltender comes from within the team’s Minor Hockey Association; however, a goaltender from outside the association may be permitted.
Teams that choose to register only one goaltender to their hockey team for the hockey season may only apply for an Emergency Goaltender if medical evidence or extenuating circumstance show that the registered goaltender and any affiliated goaltender(s) are not available. These teams will not be permitted to access an Emergency Goaltender for the purpose of having a backup on the bench (unless necessary for a Provincial Tournament).
Extenuating Circumstance is defined as but are not limited to the following:
- Registered goaltender(s) absence due to family or school events.
- Affiliated goaltender(s) unavailability due to registered team’s commitments.
Team Responsibilities:
- Team must be able to provide medical evidence or information regarding the extenuating circumstances that prevented participation from their registered goaltender or affiliates.
- Team must obtain permission from the Emergency Goaltender’s registered team.
- Emergency Goaltender must be registered to a Hockey Alberta sanctioned team.
- Team must complete the Emergency Goaltender Submission Form
- Team must forward a copy of the form to the respective League or Tournament in which the goaltender is being used.
- Team must provide a copy of the game sheet to respective League or Tournament within 24 hours of game completion
- Teams may only use one Emergency Goaltender per game
Use of an ’Emergency Goaltender’
- A copy of the Emergency Goaltender Form must accompany the team during requested activities.
- The Emergency Goaltender is permitted to accompany the team during all team activities, included but not limited to travel, dress, warm-up and game play.
- If Teams are requesting an Emergency Goaltender for the purpose of a backup, the Emergency Goaltender can only enter the game if the starting goaltender has become hurt during game play.
- Teams requesting an Emergency Goaltender for the purpose of replacing their own registered goaltender can utilize the goaltender in game play.
- All game sheets must be submitted to the appropriate League/Tournament Representative within 24 hours of the game completion.
Emergency Goaltender Submission Form
This form must be forwarded to the respective League/ Tournament prior to the use of the ’Emergency Goaltender’. Enter the League Representative email address following your own in the ’Forward Submission’ section. Separate each email with a comma but no spaces. Example: [email protected],[email protected]
A copy of this form needs to accompany the team during all requested team activities.
